Formé à Montpellier puis installé à la Réunion, Grèn Sémé incarne la nouvelle génération vivifiante des artistes îliens, biberonnée aux rythmes ternaires traditionnels de l’Océan Indien et aux richesses des sonorités actuelles. Le quintet aventurier du charismatique Carlo de Sacco, a semé dans son terreau culturel une graine de maloya évolutif, arrosée de guitares électriques, nourrie d’influences world, jazz et étayée de textes poétiques et engagés en créole. L’ensemble a bien grandi, muri au fil des scènes et porté ses fruits, remportant le Prix Alain Peters 2012 tout en disséminant aux quatre vents son subtil métissage musical aux mélodies paisibles et aux bercements maloyas.
Grèn Sémé trained in Montpellier and moved to French Reunion. He represents the new generation of Island artists : fed on the traditional ternary rhythms of the Indian Ocean and on the wealth of modern sounds. The charismatic Carlo de Sacco leads this daring quintet which has grown from the seed of evolutionary Maloya, electric guitars and influences of World Music and Jazz as well as politically committed poetic lyrics written in Creole. They have matured and evolved, working on a subtle musical metissage of soft melodies and Maloya sounds. They won the Alain Peters Award in 2012.
