In Italy, Vinicio Capossela is a baroque figure and a well-known rock star, a modern Ulysses who follows the warm tides of Mediterranean rhythms and borrows from the lyrical oratorios and from 1930's swing harmonies. The iconoclastic captain sails with great presence through references taken from marine literature to founding mythologies and through popular rebetiko to opera arias. At times, he drifts languidly through some deep blues sounds. From then on, his soft husky voice takes him straight across to the other side of the Mediterranean. A poetic and dreamlike journey.
