Maya Kamati won the 'Music of the Indian Ocean' prize for the 4th time in a row with her island blues melodies and realist songs combined with the halting ternary rhythm of Reunion Island Maloya. For the well established artist who made her mark playing with Ziskakan where she was led by her father Gilbert Pounia, Creole identity is at the heart of her work. She has managed to transcend her father's heritage by adding Indian and African influences to her intimate folk style of music. Accompanied by traditional instruments such as Kayamb and rouler and driven by an intense passion for mixing cultures, she has the most promising voice of her generation.

Lauréate du 4ème Prix Musiques de l’Océan Indien, Maya Kamati combine ses mélodies de blues îlien et de chanson réaliste aux soubresauts ternaires du maloya réunionnais. Plaçant la créolité au cœur de son propos, cette artiste accomplie au sein de Ziskakan, mené par son père Gilbert Pounia, a su transcender son héritage paternel, insufflant des influences indiennes et africaines à son folk intimatee. Portée par des instruments traditionnels (kayamb et rouler) et une intense passion pour le métissage, sa voix se révèle assurément comme la plus prometteuse de sa génération.
