With a fast and instrumental style of hip hop, Fareeq El Atrash makes his presence known and establishes himself as the ambassador of Beirut's new hip hop scene. He opens a new path that flows naturally from 'The Roots' - the band from Philadelphia - to the zajal, the traditional oral poetry from Al-Andalus declaimed in a colloquial dialect. With an equally controled eloquence, the 2 MC's talk in Arabic about everyday life, social and political issues over groove funk and soul-come-jazz music, accompanied by a beat-boxer, bass and drums. The fervour of the quintet has made it a must-see act in Lebanon, thus confirming that Beirut has well and truly become the stronghold for politically and socially committed music.
