Present-day music networks european networks
Do they have any real power ? How do they protect the public interest ? Do they help develop the music industry ?
Results and opinions...
For over 10 years, the present-day music networks (rock, pop, jazz, world music) have produced a considerable amount of work. This work is largely unrecognised and yet its impact reaches several million people every year in Europe and its actions have helped transform the landscape and practices of today’s music.
This debate is an opportunity to discover their activities and most of their current projects : security, the impact on the environment, diversity, mobility, training, pooling of people, representativeness and more... It is an opportunity to present their achievements and to measure the real impact of their actions regarding public interest., artists and the public. The key European networks will be brought together.

An introduction into Dutch Jazz and World Music
By Music Center the Netherlands (MCN, www.mcn.nl)

In recent years the Dutch world scene, like the jazz, has become a thriving one. There are specialised venues like Tropentheater Amsterdam and RASA Utrecht, and there are many high profile festivals, like Amsterdam Roots Festival, Music Meeting Nijmegen and Festival Mundial Tilburg. Groups like Arifa, Amsterdam Klezmer Band and Mdungu have travelled the world, with their specific take on contemporary global music. The internationally famous jazzvenue Bimhuis Amsterdam increasingly programmes world music, like the newly housed jazzvenue Lantaren/Venster in Rotterdam.

In this presentation you will have a short, concise and stimulating overview of the most interesting groups, festivals and venues – in other words: all the movers and shakers in the Netherlands.
Presented by Music Center the Netherlands; MCN plays a coordinating and stimulating role within the national and international music arena by supporting, communicating, and most importantly, by initiating activities, like the Dutch Jazz and World Meeting 2012 (October 4, 5, 6, Amsterdam). Home to many different partners active in the music sector, MCN forms a unifying factor in the chain of demand and supply. Moreover, it also serves as a nucleus within the music sector.
