CNV And World Music
CNV is an industrial and commercial public sector organisation within the Government’s Department for Culture and Communication. Its aim is to support current and popular music. With the help of the tax on popular music shows, the CNV is able to support the production and promotion of music events in order to help the economic development of cultural organisations and to promote cultural and artistic diversity. In partnership with Babel Med Music, CNV is organising a briefing where it will focus everyone’s attention on World music whilst at the same time give an introduction on its activities and its funding programme. This briefing is also an opportunity for professionals who are working on the festival to meet and share their own experience and difficulties.

Joe Boyd : theory and practice in « world music »
Joe Boyd is an American record producer who has spent a great deal of his career particularly in the 60’s developing his own production company Witchseason, in the UK. He even used it to publish his memoirs in 2006. His label recorded the first Pink Floyd single and help launch the careers of Nick Drake, Fairport Convention, The Incredible, String Band and more... He is also renowned for his music documentary on Jimi Hendrix. He then moved to London where he created the underground club UFO where emerging groups such as Pink Floyd and The Soft Machine got to play for the first time. He went on to found the label Hannibal and to record artists such as Richard Thompson, thus laying the first stone for what will later be called World Music.the Oc region itself ?

ADAMI : a presentation
ADAMI’s general manager Bruno Boutleux will be presenting the aims of his organisation, for all the artists in the PACA region as well as the artists attending the Babel Med Music Festival.
ADAMI’s purpose is to manage the legal rights of comedians, solo dancers and in the music sector, of some of the main performing artists : singers, solo musicians and conductors. It specifically deals with recorded music broadcasting rights. It offers financial support to professionals from the artistic world, making it easier for new artists to get started and for the established ones to carry on working. In 2011 ADAMI spent 536 100€ to help 61 ‘World music’ projects .

CNM : what are the needs and expectations of world music ?
La mise en place du Centre National de la Musique mobilise l’ensemble de la filière The impact of the creation of the National Music Centre reaches far and wide. Since the report was published in Autumn 2011, work groups made of union groups and relevant organisations have been put together. Through regular meetings and discussions around different issues such as  funding,, the Centre’s needs as well as the economic reliability of its funding sources, the project is constantly being refined. It is constantly evolving.
The first part of the round table discussion will focus on the foretaste of the CNM. Current issues will be summed up and work group participants will expose their point of view.
The second half of the round table will give a more focused approach on the needs of the professionals from the music industry. What specific needs do they have ? What can they expect from a centralised organisation such as CNM ? Can they rely on the creation of the « francophone quotas » that have been mentioned in the report ?in the World ? In France ? Or even in the Oc region itself ?
