ABDUVALI ABDURASHIDOV & BADAKHSHAN
The mystical haze of the enchanting ShashmAqâm Tadjik
  Tajikistan

As the undisputed master of the Tanbur, the long neck instrument from Central Asia, Abduvali Abdurashidov is unique in his efforts to maintain the tradition of Tadjik through the creation of a Shashmâqâm Academy.

Thanks to these ongoing efforts, the maqâms which are musical jewels from the oral tradition, will be transmitted to future generations and will allow Turkish speaking Ouzebks as well as Iranian speaking Tadjiks to see their tradition live on despite the threat of disappearance due to the Soviet invasion.

Abduvali researched his subject for a long time in order to recreate with accuracy what the shashmâqâm was and is : a refined and mystical art of the Court which is the heart and soul of Tadjikistan.

    BOOGIE BALAGAN
The amazing mix between Yiddish and Caribbean Music
    France - Israel - Palestine

They call themselves ‘Palestisraeli’ and mix a cheeky sense of humour with a crazy oriental rock style.

A melting pot of English, Hebrew, Arab, French, Spanish and Greek languages make the duo Boogie Balagan a crazy but joyful mess with Mediterranean flavours.

Quentin Tarantino couldn’t have done it better. This Tower of Babel of sounds blends blues riffs into a psychedelic atmosphere.

Beyond a musical Utopia, it resonates like hope and vibrates like the new promised land... with no frontiers.

CARLA PIRES
The elegant muse of modern Fado
  Portugal

With her magnificent alto voice and her deep performances, Carla Pires is the new muse of Lisboan Fado.

Her performance on stage is sensitive and intimate and its intensity reminds us of why the genre is sometimes called ‘the tears of Lisbon’.

Her songs tell the stories of lost love and unwanted destiny with a deep melancholy that echoes her famous predecessors.

But the young Portuguese artist’s novel approach to Fado with touches of jazz here and there and faster rhythms are hers and hers alone.

    BA CISSOKO
The heroic Maestro of the electric Kora
    Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur / Guinea

Ba Cissoko comes from a long tradition of Guinean story tellers.

He was taught how to play the kora harp by the Maestro Mbady Kouyaté and has revolutionised the way this ancient traditional instrument is played by electronically enhancing it and by reinventing his own sounds.

The Koundara genius has got rid of labels and made his own mark on the music world : mixing funk, rock and south american musics, in order to infuse Mandingue traditions with new ideas and reinvent it rather than transgress it.

ELECTRO BAMAKO
  The paths of futuristic Afro-funk
  France - Mali

Electro-Bamako is exploring and writing the new exciting chapter of its dance-floor sound which blends a spellbinding electro-funk-rock sung in Bambara with typical New York excess and traditional poetic Kamele’n Gonis.

The trio Minelli- Sidibé-Traini has reached the heights of african electronic transe music by multiplying its Malian musical power.

The melodies of the N’Gonis, these chord instruments from West Africa, and the piercing and monotonous vocals create a furiously futuristic and visionary sound.

One that makes you want to take to the dance-floor.

The fertile dialogue between the Occitan Troubadour and the Anatolian Asik
    Région Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur / Turkey - IRAN

Travelling from the Occitan harbours to the Bosphorus, the Forabandit vessel travels to every corner of the enchanting waters of Medieval Troubadours and Anatolian Asiks.
These poets of courtly love wove their profane and sacred songs of protest with thousands of harmonic sounds.

Sam Karpienia’s powerful gravelly voice and Ulas Özdemir’s intimate voice are accompanied by Bijan Chemirani’s percussions.
This fertile encounter is an invitation to cross the Mediterranean once more, for a most passionate trip, lulled by the timeless words of the poet in love.

An inspired and luminous combination.

  Guinea

    TCHEKA
The New Prince of Cape Verde, torn between Saudade and Allegria
    Cape Verde

Tcheka was first made famous in 2000 with his revival of the batuque, the traditionally feminine rhythmic music from Santiago island.

This catapulted him to the front of the Cape Verdean music scene and after spending his last three albums carried by the Oceanic waves of saudade and allegria, the singer and guitarist is making a striking come-back.

His songs are mellow ballads that denounce the hard social reality of life on the island.

His music is a land of contrast as is Cape Verde : it is both fragile and deep and it oscillates between energy and melancholy, lulled by the hypnotic and slow roll of the Atlantic Ocean.

The exciting transe of Saharian Electro-rock
Région Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur - France / Algeria

Temenik Electric is an artist who likes to experiment exuberantly with Mediterranean cultures and music.

He dips the many musical styles of the Maghreb into the hot cauldron of rock, pop and electronic sounds.

Their explosive potion has a flavour of oriental transe music with added blues, groove and diabolical machines.

In this melting pot of cultures, Arabic and French meet and chat in a telluric electro-rock ballet that has its roots buried deep on both sides of the Mediterranean sea.

    ROCÍO MÁRQUEZ
The female revelation of hypersensitive Flamenco Cante
    Andalousia - Spain

Rocío Márquez proves with grace that talent has no age : at 24 years of age, the young cantaora already exudes a power equal to her illustrious predecessors.

She has an indisputable gift for inducing duende.
Her vocal arabesques and her disconcerting and beautiful voice make her the favourite of both traditionalists and aficicionados of a more open style of cante.
She expresses old palos with a hypersensitivity that make this Andalusian gem a source of countless inspiration for pure souls...

Rocío Márquez simply shines.

BO HOUSS
The standard bearer of Mayora Youth
  Mayotte - France

Winner of the 2011 Indian Ocean Music Award as well as being the hero of a typical Mayora success-story, Bob Houss is the key figure amongst Mayotte artists.
His voice has travelled along the path of popular music, hip-hop and folk as well as reggae, zouk and the ternary rhythms of traditional m’godro.

As the island prepares itself to be given the status of ‘département’ by the government, the socially engaged singer listens to what Mahora youth has to say and in his native language Shimaoré he sings an urban groove of social issues.
With his own artistic tools, he revolutionises the Mayotte music scene and takes it to the digital age
